Introduction

Welcome to the exhibit Reclaiming the Death of a Beautiful Woman: Female Voices Adapting the Lady of Shalott. Please browse each page at your leisure. On each page you will find a video similar to the one below introducing you to one of the exhibit’s five main themes of the exhibit as presented by a member of the Rochester academic community. These videos exist to add some cultural context to the items on view. You will also notice on the left-hand side a list of artist names or titles of work that are featured for that particular theme. Upon clicking a name, you will be brought to a page where you can see the items and learn more about them. Clicking the title of an image will give you bibliographical information. Additionally, by using the universal viewer at the bottom of the page you can zoom in and out of an image to see each object in greater detail. The universal viewer also uniquely features other pages of the object not highlighted at the top of the page and in the adjoining caption. As you browse, notice how seeing a majority (or in some instances the entirety) of the book and other objects gives you perspective into how it functions as a whole.
